On30 - On2 test track

I got a Bachmann On30 Forney! (with sound!)
The forney will be regauged (somehow!) to On2, to go with my
other On2 projects, that I started because of the Bachmann forney!

This engine will be my first On2 locomotive, and it is also my first jump
into the fascinating world of DCC.

After I got the engine, I went out to Rochester's local DCC specialty train shop,
Empire Northern Models, and bought a NCE Powercab system.
I like it!

Since just about all of my future On2 locomotives are probably going to come from On30 models, I will need a test-track to test the engines that has both On30 (HO scale) and On2 track on it.
not only to test the DCC, but to test the operation of the locomotives as they go through various stages of construction..

I dont have a layout yet!
so I have nowhere to actually run anything.
all I have is a small module, with 18" of hand-laid track, built for photographing models:

and now this new test track.

The test track is on a 8" X 36" board, (actually a small shelf from Home Depot)
and the track is two pieces of Atlas code 83 HO scale flex track.

The On30 test track is just the HO scale track, unmodified.
For the On2 test track, I laid a straightedge on the back of the ties, scored the ties with an x-acto blade, then snapped the track in half right down the middle.
Then I overlapped the cut ties, made a styrene spacer to set the rails 1/2" apart,
then glued down both sets of track with a bead of Gorilla Glue right down the center!

yes..its ugly! ;)
but so what..this is a functional track! it doesnt have to be pretty.

Pictures!

Here is an overview of the track..
the NCE "power panel" is mounted on the board, and each set of track will have wires soldered to it, with a plug, so changing tracks is as simple as changing plugs.

yeah..that yellow gorilla glue wasnt the most elegant way to glue down the track..but it was handy, and it works! maybe I will paint it brown, just to blend it in..

The Forney is still On30, havent started the conversion to On2 yet.
my other two pieces of rolling stock, the coach and the boxcar, are already On2.

Forney on On30 track.

Forney set on the On2 track.

thats it!
next comes "the big conversion" to On2...stay tuned.
