Chick
Day steamup!
Pictures
and report by Scot Lawrence
I know
what you are thinking..
but
no..not those chicks,
actually,
its these chicks!
April
28, 2007
Chili,
NY (suburb of Rochester)
A cold
& drizzly day..great day for good steam plumes!
Chick-Day
at Higbie Farm Supplies in Chili, NY.
an
annual event commemorating the spring hatching of baby chickens and ducks!
Tom
Bowdler buys his coal for his coal stove there, so they asked him if he
would run some trains on chick day! (which is a very kid-centric and family
oriented day to begin with, perfect for trains!), naturally he said yes!
Sadly
the weather wasnt so great..it was fairly cold and rainy..but the show
must go on!
with
some big canopy tents, we are good to go!
Toms
portable track set up in the parking lot.
Scot's
"bagger shayish" makes one of the first runs.
We
had big crowds all day..lots of kids and their parents enjoying the trains!
Mike
W's tricked-out ruby ("insanerocketkid" on MLS) takes to the rails.
New
live steam convert Doug attended his first steamup! and operated Tom's
Regner
Konrad..I think its safe to say the bug has bit!

Deb hangs out with the official "chicks" of chick day!

A view
from the overpass..the CSX mainline runs right next to Higbies!
(the
original New York Central mainline)
many
trains passed by all day.

Tom
fires up his Coal-powered shay while a 1:1 scale CSX train passes by
in
the background.
Tom
brought an ample supply of coal for the shay!
Thats
it!
even
with the weather, a great time was had by all..
see
you at the next steamup!
Return
to Upstate Steamers.
