The
Upstate Steamers began in 2002, when Ron Brown and Chuck Walters first
hatched the idea..as Ron recalls:
"Chuck
and I were
talking about how nice it would be to have a monthly steamup to attend
in the upstate region. We decided to start an informal group and see
how
many other fellows might be interested. There was instant acceptance,
and
we had little or no problem filling the calendar every year after that."

New
members quickly came onboard! and soon four railroad owners were
regular
hosts:
Chuck
Walters had his large raised track in Oswego, NY available for steamup
gatherings,
Tom
Bowdler had his Garden railroad in Brockport, Roger Caiazza also has a
Garden Railroad equipped for live steam near Syracuse, and Ron Brown's
well known track at "Paradise East" rounded out the early tracks ..the
guys decided to get together once a month, or whenever they could, to
have
steamups! and so the Upstate steamers club began.
Ron
& Marie Brown, publishers of Steam
in the Garden magazine, host a large summer
steamup
every August, one of the largest annual steamups in the East.
In
2003 Don Sauer finished his "Don's place to run trains" railroad, and
Don
and Marion
have
hosted annual steamups every year since.

Every
year new members have joined the group, and the club's activities
continue
to expand.
Now,
not only do we have steamups at member's home railroads, but the club
also
does
steamups
and live steam demonstrations at public train shows and other public
events,
(thanks
to Tom Bowdler and his portable steam track.)
Come
out and join us!

28, 2007 (Saturday) - "Chick Day" at Higbie Farm Supplies, 3440 South
Union

North Chili, NY. "Chick Day" is an annual event commemorating
the spring hatching of baby chickens and ducks!

Train and Toy Show at the Dome Center, Henrietta.

We might have a new location this year, and no longer be in our
beloved "Potato Booth"..more details as they become available.
Update! The "Horticulture building" is no longer part of
the Syracuse
show. This year, the two buildings will be the "Toyota Exibit
Center" (the new building) and the "Center of Progress" building.
(used in past shows).. We will be moving to the Toyota building this
year.
December
6-7 (Sat-Sun) - RIT
show, Rochester. The big annual train show, the largest
in the Rochester region, at the RIT field house.
2009
February
21 & 22 - Greenberg's
