Today, No. 506 remains the only 1976 Bicentennial locomotive still wearing its 1976
bicentennial paintscheme! Yes, the blue was given a fresh coat, but the striping and the
red paint was never replaced, and the overall scheme (apart from the lettering) remains
original to the D&H bicentennial scheme first applied in 1975!

No. 506 was one of eight D&H RS3's rebuilt into chop-nosed RS3u units by Morrison-Knudsen
in 1975-1976. Today 506 is the only survivor of the eight.
506 was also one of two D&H bicentennial units, the other being GE U23B 1776.

There has been some confusion about the origins of 30 and 40..

some rosters say 30 was B&M 1126 and 40 was B&M 1127.
this is incorrect.
Provencial Shortline didnt number them in consective order.
30 is actually B&M 1127
40 is actually B&M 1126
this photo proves it.

So! to summarize:

This shortline story began with the Tioga Transportation Museum in Flemingville
in 1971.

The Tioga Central in Owego and the Tioga Central in Wellsboro were essentially the same
railroad, but in two different locations. The railroad picked up from Owego and re-settled in Wellsboro.

The Wellsboro & Corning used to be the Freight operator of the Wellsboro to Corning line,
and the Tioga Central ran the passnger excursions on the same line, but they were two
different unrelated railroads. Until 2007 that is, when both were sold, then bought by the same outfit, (The Myles Group) who now plans to continue both freight and excursion operations, and now both railroads have a common owner. (as far as I can tell, they have kept the names Tioga Central and Wellsboro & Corning)

The Owego & Harford and the Tioga Scenic in Owego were the same system, common owner, but completely unrelated to the Tioga Central of Owego and Wellsboro.

Tioga Scenic in Owego stopped passenger excursion service in Owego in 2005.
Now only freight service remains in Owego on the O&H.

The Owego & Harford started up in Owego in 1992, and also operated the Tioga Scenic excursion railroad. They then started a second operation, the Luzerne & Susquehanna in
the Wilkes Barre, PA area in 1994 (engine house in Pittston)

Owego & Harford (1992 - present, Owego, NY)
Tioga Scenic (now defunct) (1992-2005, Owego, NY)
Luzerne & Susquehanna (1994 - present, Pittston PA)
Lehigh Railway (2009 - present, Towanda PA)

This page is not affiliated in any way with the Tioga Central, Tioga Scenic,
Owego & Harford, Luzerne & Susquehanna or Lehigh Railway.
It is simply one railfans personal railfan page about these interesting
Southern Tier shortlines, which have been an integral part of the Southern Tier
railroad scene for 20 years now.

The purpose of this page is mainly to document the locomotive rosters of these shortlines,
and to record a timeline of dates for historic purposes.

Official page of the Tioga Central, Wellsboro, PA - http://www.tiogacentral.com/

There does not seem to be an official webpage for the Owego & Harford.
There was once an official webpage for the Tioga Scenic, but it is no longer online.
and there is not yet any official webpage for the Lehigh Railway. when/if one appears,
I will post it here.

Comments, corrections, additions, questions, etc. are very welcome!
email Scot here: sscotsman@yahoo.com

i'm sure some of the data above is incorrect, and clearly much data is still missing.
It is my hope that by building this page, a full history of these lines can be recorded.

thanks!
Scot
