Intermodal service began today over trackage rights of the WWPRR with CEO Larry Mosher to the port of Salem.  This joint effort will compete against CSX service in Boston.  The down side of container service in Boston harbor is that there are no tracks along the water front.  Containers off loaded in Boston must be carried by truck to Beacon Park yard before being loading on to the rails.  The WWPRR has tracks dockside at the Port of Salem, MA.  Suleski Transportation can now offer container service directly from ship to rail.  The WWPRR just purchased 3 new 5 car sets of Gunderson's to help kick off this new service.

ST 6114 heads out of the interchange yard where Suleski Transportation meets the WWPRR tracks in Beverly.

From trackside the CEO's of both companies watch the longest Intermodal train of record head out.

The train clears the steel arch bridge and heads out over the broad curve to begin its climb upgrade.

ST-6114, a rebuilt SD45, pulls the container train trough the WWPRR's only tunnel.

Here 21 double stacks are pulled up the grade.

The length of this train is apparent as it almost wraps around itself.

Pulling at about its maximum load the single SD45 runs the test to see how many units must be assigned to each train.

After a successful afternoon run Suleski Transportation will begin advertising it's new service to begin to draw container service to the Port of Salem, MA.
